Taiwan is eyeing for 10 percent increase in exports to the Philippines as it brought the Taiwan Excellence here, its campaign for quality-products made in Taiwan. The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) of Taiwan has brought for the first time the Taiwan Excellence in the Philippines to promote that Taiwan’s products are quality products and innovative yet more affordable, said Walter Yeh, executive vice president of Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).
Yeh told reporters in the sidelines of Taiwan Excellence launch in Makati City Thursday that this promotion of the Taiwanese government has been running since 2010 in emerging markets such as Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Mainland China, and now in the Philippines. “We notice the Philippines has GDP (gross domestic product) growth rate by more than 7.0 percent in 2013, and this is top among ASEAN countries. Strong consumer purchasing powers cannot be ignored,” Yeh explained.
According to Yeh, two-way trade between Taiwan and Philippines in 2013 was pegged at US$ 12 billion. The country is also the 11th largest trade partner of Taiwan globally.Taiwan’s import from the Philippines posted a total of US$ 840 million while Taiwan’s export to the country was at US$ 4.1 billion.
He said with the campaign here, Taiwan targets for 10 percent increment in export to the Philippines and another 5.0 percent increase in two-way trade.Moreover, Taiwan Excellence has brought 57 Taiwanese brands with their 175 products from ICT, home appliances, healthcare, leisure, and sporting brands.
